That's because I don't know many 8-12 year old boys (who I've written the 8-12 year old bracket stories for). Or, for that matter, 13-18 year old boys (who I've written YA books for).

Don't despair, it's only a trick (probably one of many, you just have to figure out what works for you). I have 14 and 15 year old boys. One read one doesn't. My 15 year old is always reading, but he reads free books online and loves dragons and anime. He's always on this website: https://www.lightnovelpub.com/search

Some people find it easier to ask parents of MG boys...
