Readers will stop reading because your hero is boring, or because you started with a battle scene and so nobody knows who your hero is - so who are we supposed to cheer for? Um.... 
I just saw "10 Worst Hero Tropes to Avoid" from Jenna Moreci. Warning: some bad language - but it's absolutely hilarious. Do yourself a favour and take a look!
