to give you an idea how hard it is for me to concentrate, it took me until 1pm to finish reading this post in between interruptions. I was constantly trying to read. Imagine trying to concentrate on my book!

I agree with this, but I have a question re: phonetic spelling. Didn't Mark Twain do this with Huckleberry Finn? Don't we understand (and even sympathise with) Huck's character, despite his unusual way of speaking? :)

Love this, especially the section on dialogue tags - I used to focus far too heavily on making them "interesting" that it would detract from the entire dialogue.
