An editor with over 20 years experience explaining 'show don't tell'. So totally worth a listen, if you're serious about learning what it takes to hone the craft of writing: https://blog.reedsy.com/live/show-dont- ... le-reason/

Definitely!!! :D I've been following this rule for the past few years. It's made my writing ever so much more descriptive and fun to write, and really made me think about what I'm writing. ;)

Just compare and contrast these two examples:

TELL
"Shame on you, Stephen!" She said. Stephen was embarrassed.

SHOW
"Shame on you, young man!" The woman wagged a gnarled and slightly middle-aged finger at Stephen. "Hasn't your mother ever taught you to knock before entering a room?"

Oh no, thought Stephen as the hot, flushing feeling began somewhere around the base of his neck. Why am I blushing? What am I, a little boy? I'm 36, for crying out loud!

But the woman laughed as she looked at him again. "What are you laughing at?" he said loudly, trying to maintain a shred of dignity.

"Your ears have gone red," she giggled. "I've never seen a man's ears going red before!"

See the difference? ;) Don't tell the reader what's happening - show it happening, as if it were a movie, and watch your writing (and your characters) come alive. :)
There is nothing wrong with nepotism, so long as you keep it all in the family. (Winston Churchill)

Different than the usual, discusses when to show and when to tell. And this is a balancing act. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeEI7A1ZM28
