Re: A YouTube reviewer

Publishers have an extremely high standard! Like Cage says, it's about a good story well told. We don't need to read a super star to enjoy a good story.

A YouTube reviewer

This is a good book reviewer who tears apart Cassandra Clare in the first part of this video series. There are at least 4 parts. Even if you haven't read The Mortal Instruments, the insight she gives into a reader's mind is educational. It seems Cassandra Clare wrote Harry Potter fan fiction and jus...

Re: Don't let anybody tell you how to write

Good point Cage, it is a cheap way to learn how to target your audience. Take heart, Jo, it's all part of the journey and you're on your way. Writers are masochists who wear their soul on their sleeves. That feeling of wanting to get under covers is natural. Learn to ignore it. You're doing somethin...

Re: Don't let anybody tell you how to write

I'm sure the ones who loved it were more your target audience than those who didn't. I suppose you've just had your first taste of what it's like to publish. Not everyone will like it. It's a hard pill to swallow when we've worked so hard on something we love. Sounds like congrats are in order :) gr...

Character relationships

15 minute podcast by authors. One is Brandon Sanderson https://writingexcuses.com/2018/07/01/13-26-character-relationships/ Followed by Character foils https://writingexcuses.com/2018/07/08/13-27-characters-as-foils/ One of them (can't remember which. Think it's the first ) has a really interesting ...

Re: How Many Characters

Of course, if you're the next GRR Martin, this is just another rule to break. But I'm not writing to become the next GRR Martin! So, that's sage advice. I think I've eliminated unnecessary characters but only a reader can tell me if I've been successful.

Re: The paragraph

I think it's a question of style. Brandon Sanderson uses it often in The Way of Kings. A bestseller. It's a personal choice whether you use it, but it is a shallower POV compared to the deep POV. As Cage says, you're aware of the narrator/author. Up to you what you prefer. If it's A's POV scene, the...
